Vinho Verde Goes Great With a Salad
I love a good crisp white, and it’s especially fun to venture out and try some from other countries. Case in point: Vinho Verde from Portugal. Grape varieties: 80% Loureiro and 20% Trajadura. I got this one at Beltramo’s for $9, though I’ve seen it higher elsewhere. I usually like these simple, spritzy wines, and the Encostas do Lima wasn’t any different in that regard. Tickling the tongue with citrus, stone, peach pit, and tart green apple. Fairly subtle, the finish falls away quickly, but I wouldn’t expect a long one.
I had the wine with one of my many favorite salads: grapefruit-vinaigrette dressed greens with lump crabmeat, goat cheese, and avocado. Seeing as how I used some of the wine in the salad dressing, the match was set to be a good one. Plus, the spritz went nicely with the texture of the grapefruit pieces scattered throughout the salad.
