Taking the Plunge…
….into the Society of Wine Educators. Several of us at work joined recently and have started meeting to go through the study guide for the exam to become Certified Specialists of Wine. I recently got some advice from Kori of Wine Peeps and am sure that Joe (from 1 Wine Dude), who started an SWE group on Open Wine Consortium, will be a source of help as well.
And I can use it. At our Tuesday meeting, we tasted blind through seven of the major white wine varietals. I thought I had done better, but I mixed three of them up. Top that off with my Swiss cheese memory, and I’ve got a lot of work on my hands. Keep on pulling corks and such, all in the name of research. I’m just worried because I need to take it in September if I want to avoid having to travel to another locale, as it’s already expensive. Eek!
Any others out there who have taken or will take the exam? Advice?

Good luck - it’s not as bad as it seems!
While tasting will help for exam questions on descriptions of wines, etc., remember that there are no tastings on the CSW exam, just I think 100 (somewhat difficult) multiple choice questions; you need 75 correct to pass, and the exam is 1 hour.
There’s nothing like taking something you enjoy and temporarily ruining it by turning it into a fearful academic exercise! I’ve done it 3 times already and would highly recommend it to anyone :-).
Anyway - happy to help in any way that I can. Cheers!
