Pop Goes the Pommery Pink

by Farley on January 27th, 2008

Pommery Pink Pop ChampagneI received this Pommery Pink Pop for Christmas and decided to open the brut rose’ the other night when I only wanted one glass of wine with dinner. Since this bottle is 187 ml, it didn’t actually fill the flute, but it was close. I found notes of citrus and raspberry, reminiscent of the Pepperidge Farms cookies with raspberry centers. Easy to drink, it went nicely with my make-shift meal. But, hey, Champagne goes with anything, for me.

While this bottle is very today, Pommery’s story goes back quite a way into the past. In 1836 Narcisse Greno created what would later become the Champagne house, and Monsieur Pommery entered the scene about twenty years later. Soon after that, he suddenly died, leaving his wife, Jeanne-Alexandrine Louise, with two children and control of the business. Another ten years found her heading the construction of the Domain which still stands today in Reims and attacts visitors from around the world .

So it seems appropriate that this fun little bottle stands in homage to the hard work of another Champagne widow.
