My (Second) Valentine to Wine
Wine,
Here we are, a year later, and I’m still enamored. Last Valentine’s Day I charted the history of our relationship–the initial attraction, which was like flirting across a room when you don’t really know someone. The tug of intrigue, how you made me want to find out more. And as much as I think I know now, I know there is still so much I don’t. That’s the beauty of our situation. There’s always more to learn, more to experience. I’ll never get bored, never cheat on you with the next-door neighbor. (And I know you won’t leave me for your secretary….)
Because we’ve got this thing, this understanding. I’ll never tire of your jokes or have your laugh grate my nerves. We can have fun doing everything from reading tomes of wisdom, making magnificent meals, throwing parties, tasting across California, and someday, the world. Sometimes I love to share you with friends and sometimes I want you all to myself. But whatever it is, wherever we are—whether drinking, writing, discussing, teaching, or anything else, the day is usually a little more fun, a little easier, with you by my side.
