Monogamous Grape Relations?
Hmmm, it really does seem that I’m getting to be a one-grape kinda girl. After the last post, I realized that there were two recent Pinot Noir sightings that I hadn’t written about yet. To my delight, BK picked up a Spatburgunder at The Wine Mine last week. Then on Sunday, I was highly disappointed when we didn’t have time to make it to Testarossa for a restock on some of their yummy Pinot. The bubbly has been flowing, too, and those often include this favored grape, as well.
I think we all go through phases. When you’re a kid, it might be wearing the same t-shirt five days in a row, until mom has to hide it. As an adult, it might be one week where I eat salads every day. Maybe another week it’s a Battlestar Galactica or Buffy marathon, when that’s all I want to watch. And the past few weeks, it’s been Pinot Noir. Don’t get me wrong. I love them all—crisp whites, big reds, and everything in between. But Pinot Noir has just been doing it for me lately more than others.
Recent tastings:
2004 La Rochelle Pinot Noir from Monterey
Tart cherry, freshly stripped bark, vanilla, pepper, then later hints of sauerkraut and then just when a fire has died…
Tasted with salmon croquettes, mac n cheese topped with white truffle oil, and spicy green beans but didn’t quite stand up to it. Disclaimer: I wasn’t in the best mood.
2005 Roederer Estate Pinot Noir from Anderson Valley
Slightly herbaceous (dill) on nose with strawberry rhubarb, cherry, dirt, nutmeg, and white pepper…Light and acidic but somehow went with the chicken parmesan with sides of shiitake mushrooms and (white) peppered broccoli
Now, on to something else!
