Grgich Hills and Lobster Ravioli
The other night I wanted to make something quick and easy, as we were a little pooped from camping and hiking. I had some lobster ravioli (courtesy of Trader Joe’s) that I pulled out with the thought of making a cream sauce. That meant I wanted some Chardonnay, so I also got the 2005 Grgich Hills Estate Chardonnay from the fridge. If I could have found my notes from my visit there (oh, okay, I didn’t try to look until just now and had no luck), I might not have chosen this particular bottle. This wine did not go through malolactic fermentation, so it probably wasn’t the best choice to go with the creamy corn and red onion sauce that I whipped up, because the food was slightly sweet and the wine was fairly acidic. But, hey. They can’t all be home runs. As for the wine, I found apple, pear, lightly buttered toast, and a nice river of minerality running through. It cost $40 and had pretty high alcohol at 14.3%, though it didn’t seem it.

Wow, Riesling isn’t something you find too often in Napa.
