Behind the Vines

First Meal With Wine in the New Kitchen

by Farley on September 26th, 2007

not the best meal ever, but...The first actual meal in the new apartment was pizza delivery that I ordered for the moving gang (BTW, thanks, Tyler, Tony, Char, Lorraine, and BK!) However, the first meal I ‘cooked’ was not that much more special. I had some thawed tomato sauce– that I carted with me from the other freezer– which I put over spinach fettucine with some grated cheese. Not very satisfying, I have to admit. The wine was better. I opened the [tag]2003 Clos LaChance Syrah[/tag], and the funny thing is: I saw that Wannabe Wino opened it too. I had given it to Megan when she and Matt came to Sonoma and we met for dinner. The bottle was from my trip to Los Gatos and Backyard Wineries, which houses Clos LaChance and Fleming-Jenkins.

Er, ok, I actually bought a case, my first and only so far….The half bottles make great presents and the perfect choice when I know I’ll end up pouring a nearly full bottle of wine down the drain because I only want a single serving.

As for my glass, it was sweet and rich at first. I found notes of vanilla, coffee, raspberry, clove, pepper, and smoked meat. Honestly, though, I was so happy to be in my new (did I mention bigger?) place, it wouldn’t have mattered much what I was drinking. Anything (within reason) would have tasted good.

Side note: I’ve been trying to catch up with older posts, but I’m jumping ahead for a minute. Once I switched my other blog to being all Rosenblum, all the time, I no longer had a place for other wine activities until Behind the Vines was ready. So my time references might not make much sense the next few weeks. Plus, my memory won’t be as accurate.
