Autumn Always Has Been My Favorite Season
I was visiting Domaine 547 the other day when I noticed a side bar about the 2006 L’Automne Pinot Noir. Which reminded me I had that bottle about a month ago and have yet to write about it. Made on Copain’s second label, the grapes come from Anderson Valley. BK told me he got the bottle for about $20, in keeping with the price I saw on the website. And it was worth it. Though the alcohol came through on the nose initially, it blew off into vanilla, strawberry, and pepper. The palate was a little meatier and the fruit a bit more muted but the strawberry and cherry came through, along with some earthiness.
BK cooked a delicious meal to go along with our wine:lamb chops and herb-roasted potatoes. Normally a Pinot Noir might be overwhelmed by the gaminess of the meat, but this one had a little more oomph to it and could stand up to the lamb. And the fact that it took me so long to write about it in no way means it was forgettable.
