Argyle Brut and an Asian-Themed Meal, in Minutes

by Farley on December 10th, 2007

Argyle sparkling wine and take-outDr. Debs was right on the money in her post about take-out. Sometimes you just have to have it with a busy holiday schedule and so many other things to do than cook. Of course, I have to spruce things up a bit, and that includes with wine. I had bought a bottle of 2001 Argyle Brut Sparkling Wine before Thanksgiving at Safeway, where it was already on sale for $23, and I got an additional 10% off by purchasing six bottles. This was part of my promise to myself to drink more Oregon wine, as this one is from the Willamette Valley. For dinner, I heated up leftovers from lunch at Dragon Village (where the portions are huge and the prices low) along with shrimp tempura and edamame from Trader Joe’s. The sparkling wine, comprised of 52% Chardonnay and 48% Pinot Noir, showed lemon, yeast, and slight notes of almond. The bubbles helped wash down the saltiness of the noodles and sea-salt sprinkled soy beans. And it cut through the lightly fried batter of the shrimp. Overall, a fast meal that didn’t feel like one.

Isn’t it amazing how bubbly dresses up anything–and goes with pretty much anything. It’s been a while since I’ve had one of those Argyle bottles. Have to look for one, although I don’t see them in LA as much as I used to in Northern California.

    Dr.Debs,
I know– it’s the perfect fix for a meal you might not otherwise get too excited about. I have to say, I had recently tasted an Argyle Pinot that was not too good, so I was pleased that this one was.
